Lebanon winter visit

I’m here to facilitate the Circuna Team of Trainers’ continued development as artists and circus teachers in the Palestine refugee camps around Lebanon. My host is our local Project Manager Ibrahim.

This first day was very pleasant, walking through the now calm downtown, where malls and such are being built. We planned the first week, over an over priced caffe latte and enjoyed the warming sun. The army is rehearsing for the Independence Day (Nov 22nd) and we see men in uniforms everywhere…

We had a traditional lunch with chicken, hummos, veggies, etc. We visted the lock-smith, as Ibrahim had locked us out of the apartment and we went to say hello at our partner NGO Al-Jana. They were editing a documentary about a theatre-in-schools project. The very first show of Circuna was a part of this and it felt great to see our guys involved in such a good thing.

Our collegues from the South African Clowns without Borders did, very unfortunately, not get a visa to Lebanon this time. I guess it has to do with the poverty rate in SA, but it should not be this difficult! Next time we have to find friends in high positions to help us out. That’s how it seems to work…

So, instead of Sbo and Gavin, a Swedish trainer called Camilla will join us in a few days. I just have to find an affordable ticket for her.
