This winter-stay in Beirut is coming to an end. With me and Caspar (juggler) a period of more intense training for the team has started. The process of interviewing team-members and representatives of centers and NGOs for a later evaluation has begun. Circus material has been delivered and started to come to use. The appartement has been further equipped for more trainers and guests, arriving soon after I leave.
It has been an exciting time; introducing Caspar to a lot of new people and seeing how well he and they have handled that; developing the relations between us in the managing, artistic leading and administrative positions; finding forms for this new kind of project; even handling a small earthquake and avoiding demonstrators of opposing parties shooting at each other in the streets; seeing serious men in long beards and funny hats, addressing the masses, mixing messages of war and religion, holiness and power, justice and oppression.
(We all know who will lose in the end: Not me, not the silly hats or shiny suits, but the ones who already know they don’t stand a chance when the word is said, the declaration made.)
